Gucci’s new Lifestyle collection will give your WFH configuration a dose of luxury
Working from home is not a glamorous scenario, but let Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele make it a bit more. From September 10, the fashion house’s new Lifestyle collection will be available in select stores. Gucci shops and online, bringing with it a host of offers designed to work and relax in style (preferably at the same time), including stationery, clipboards, pajamas and more.
Although widely available soon, the collection originally debuted at a temporary store in Milan, “Gucci Cartoleria“, September 5. Until September 17, the location will remain a whimsical take on traditional Italian stationery, with a plethora of surprises to show off. The store was envisioned by Michele, who wanted visitors to not only see collection, but enter an “enchanted refuge” that turns the traditional lifestyle category upside down: think flying notebooks, playing chess games themselves, little mouse flats with Gucci Decor, and more. Basically, the spot is a sort of “cabinet of curiosities” – an idea that served as the underlying inspiration for the Lifestyle collection itself.
“When I was a kid going to the stationery and finding pencils, pens, notebooks, games, was making a dream part of my daily routine,” Michele said in a statement. “They were beautiful, well-made objects that spoke of craftsmanship and which, although part of my daily life, were able to give off a magical, mysterious and wonderful aura. For this reason, presenting the Gucci Lifestyle collection in Milan through the Gucci Cartoleria is a sort of consecration, a tribute that I was right to pay. So, I imagined a small cabinet of curiosities, a Wunderkammer, like Ali Baba’s cave, which could accommodate these everyday objects and bring them back to a fairytale dimension.
As to why Michele decided to give these products their own store and an entirely separate line? “I could have included them in collections a long time ago, but they weren’t strictly related to clothing and accessories,” continued the creative director. “That’s why I wanted to build a whimsical space where they could be placed, to give back to everyday life that wonder that makes them so dear to me.
Whatever his reasoning, the launch is timely. More specifically, the drop offers a wide selection of stationery items ideal for modernizing your home office: notebooks, letter case, pencil cases, pen and other related items are included. Leisure was also at the heart of the collection; in the release you will also find silk satin pajamas, sleep masks and slippers, among others. And to make sure you take the time to play, there are also games and cards to play. Almost all, of course, feature Gucci’s classic maximalist aesthetic.
As expected, the Lifestyle collection comes with a fantastic campaign, which was shot by Max Siedentopf in Tuscany at Castello Sonnino (a 16th century fortress built by the Medici family). Much like Gucci Cartoleria, the images depict a dreamlike scene with Alice in Wonderland-esque surrealism: the cards are larger than life, dogs play poker, etc.
If you have the chance to visit Milan during Milano Design Week from September 5 to 17, you can see the collection in the brand’s temporary store in Via Manzoni 19. Otherwise, you can buy Gucci Lifestyle pieces from September 10. September in some Gucci. shops and online on Gucci.com.
