Get Back delayed, Ghostbusters Ultimate update, House of Gucci, Belfast, The King’s Man and more
Today’s update is a quick one, with two additional new disc reviews, two pretty big release news, and some additional release news as well. First, the reviews…
Dennis took a look at Ronald Neame Gambit (1966) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, which stars Michael Caine and Shriley MacLaine.
And Stephen saw Nadia Tass again The big flight (1990) on Blu-ray from Columbia Pictures via Umbrella Entertainment’s Sunburnt Screens line.
A quick note: I took a little break from reviewing discs myself, as I focused on planning The pieces upgrade of the site that we will be doing in the coming months. But I expect to get back to reviewing in the next few weeks, and I’ll definitely catch up on specific titles then. So thank you for your patience in the meantime.
And now…Disney informed us today that their 2/8 Blu-ray and DVD release of the Peter Jackson documentary The Beatles: Come Back is delayed. Apparently, the studio ran into an audio issue in the release at the last minute and needs to fix it. So just be aware of the delay, and we’ll post updates straight from the studio here when they reschedule the title with a new street date. [Read on here…]
Also today, we confirmed with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that their Ghostbusters Ultimate Edition The 4K Ultra HD version was a limited edition. Not only did it sell out almost everywhere within a day or two of its announcement, but the studio currently has no plans to make any more copies. The problem, however, is that a HUGE number of fans of these movies missed out and couldn’t order copies before they sold out – and boy, did we hear from them here at The pieces! I spoke to the studio and they seem open to the possibility of producing more if the demand is there. So I just posted about it on Twitter here. Feel free to follow me there and politely ask Sony to produce another batch of this box set, or at least a disc-only version with all contents in new packaging to keep up with demand. If enough fans politely ask, you never know what might be possible in the months to come. So do not hesitate to intervene here.
In other release news today, MGM put Ridley Scott’s Gucci House for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/22. Extras will include 3 featurettes (The rise of the house of Gucci, The lady of the houseand Gucci design house). There doesn’t appear to be a 4K UHD release planned, but we’ll have to wait for the official announcement from the studio to be sure.
Plus, Universal just stared Kenneth Branagh Belfast for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/3, with digital release slated for 8/2. The film will include an audio commentary with Branagh, deleted scenes, 2 featurettes (A City of Stories: The Making of Belfast and Everyone’s inner child), and an exclusive alternate ending with an optional commentary from Branagh.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate has put war hunt for release on Blu-ray, DVD and digital on 4/12.
Lionsgate will also release the reboot movie highway to paradise on DVD on 3/1.
Well Go USA Entertainment will release the sci-fi thriller Gemini Project on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on 3/15.
