Duchess of Sussex follows in Diana’s fashion footsteps with signature Dior bag
Princess Diana first received her favorite Dior bag (originally called the “Chouchou”) on a trip to Paris in 1995 – a gift from the First Lady of France, Bernadette Chirac. It became such a distinctive cornerstone of the royal wardrobe that the French fashion house renamed the bag in its honor the following year, launching the Lady Dior in 1996. Many of Diana’s most memorable looks included the bag. elegant patent black with its distinctive rounded handles: as when paired with an elegant pale sleeveless dress she slipped on at Buenos Aires airport in Argentina; and a bright orange Versace skirt suit worn for a visit to Liverpool, both in 1995.
The princess’ Cartier Tank Française gold watch was another chic wardrobe staple, spotted on several engagements, including visiting the British Lung Foundation and the Hindu Shri Swaminarayan Mandir temple of Neasden, both in 1997. Loaded of sentimental meaning, the Online Mail reports that the gold watch was given to Diana as a 21st birthday gift from her father, John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer.
Meghan, meanwhile, has long been a fan of the same model, recounting Hi! in 2015 that she bought the watch as a gift for herself. She explains: “I have always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I discovered Costumes [the US legal drama in which Meghan rose to fame] had been chosen for our third season – which at the time looked like a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version. I had it engraved on the back “To MM From MM” and I intend to give it to my daughter one day. This is what makes the pieces special, the connection you have with them.
Perhaps Lilibet will also be the lucky recipient of her mother’s stylish Lady D-Lite bag, which is fully embroidered (as opposed to the patent leather version of Princess Diana), with a black Cannage pattern and a signature ” Christian Dior ”- plus an extra dose of glamor from his uppercase“ DIOR ”charms with a gold finish.
